The Embassy of the Republic of Rwanda in Jordan hosted the 31st commemoration of the 1994 Genocide Against the Tutsi. The event brought together government officials, diplomats, business leaders, academics, and the Rwandan community in Jordan to honor the victims and reaffirm the global commitment to preventing such atrocities from ever happening again.
This year’s commemoration, known as Kwibuka, which means “to remember” in Kinyarwanda, served as a platform to reflect on the resilience of survivors, the lessons learned from history, and the continued fight against genocide denial and hate speech.
In his speech, the Charge d’Affaires of Rwanda in Jordan emphasized the importance of remembrance, stating: “Kwibuka is not merely an act of reflection; it is a solemn commitment to ensuring such atrocities never happen again. It is about educating future generations, speaking the truth, and rejecting the ideologies of denial and hate. Denial of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi remains a serious challenge to both the memory of the victims and efforts towards justice and reconciliation.”
The event also featured remarks from the UN Resident Coordinator and the Chairman of the Rwanda Community, who reflected on Rwanda’s transformation from a nation devastated by genocide to one of reconciliation, unity, and socio-economic progress. The resilience of the Rwandan people and leadership was widely acknowledged
As part of the commemoration, attendees observed a moment of silence and participated in the lighting of the remembrance flame, symbolizing a collective commitment to honoring the victims’ memory and fostering a future rooted in peace and unity.

نظّمت سفارة جمهورية رواندا في المملكة الأردنية الهاشمية فعالية إحياء الذكرى الحادية والثلاثين للإبادة الجماعية ضد التوتسي التي وقعت عام 1994، بمشاركة مسؤولين حكوميين، ودبلوماسيين، ورجال أعمال، وأكاديميين، وأفراد من الجالية الرواندية في الأردن. وقد هدفت هذه الفعالية إلى تكريم الضحايا، وتجديد الالتزام العالمي بمنع تكرار مثل هذه الجرائم المروعة في المستقبل.
تحمل هذه الذكرى اسم “كويبوكا“، وهي كلمة تعني “التذكر” بلغة كينيارواندا. وقد شكّلت المناسبة فرصة للتأمل في صمود الناجين، والدروس المستفادة من التاريخ، والاستمرار في مواجهة إنكار الإبادة الجماعية والتصدي لخطاب الكراهية.
وفي كلمته خلال الفعالية، أكّد القائم بالأعمال في سفارة رواندا على أهمية إحياء الذكرى، قائلاً:
“كويبوكا لا تقتصر على مجرد استذكار للماضي ، بل تُجسّد التزامًا عميقًا بعدم تكرار مثل هذه الجرائم مرة أخرى. إنها دعوة لتوعية الأجيال القادمة، والتمسك بالحقيقة، ورفض كافة أشكال الإنكار والكراهية. إن إنكار الإبادة الجماعية ضد التوتسي عام 1994 لا يزال يُشكّل تحديًا بالغ الخطورةلذاكرة الضحايا، وللجهود المبذولة في سبيل العدالة والمصالحة.”
وشهدت الفعالية أيضًا كلمات لكل من منسق الأمم المتحدة المقيم، ورئيس الجالية الرواندية في الأردن، حيث استعرضا التحول الجذري الذي شهدته رواندا؛ من بلد دمرته الإبادة الجماعية إلى دولة قائمة على المصالحة والوحدة والتقدم الاقتصادي والاجتماعي. وقد أجمعت الكلمات على الإشادة بصمود الشعب الرواندي وبُعد نظر قيادته في تجاوز آثار الماضي وبناء مستقبل مزدهر.
وتضمّن برنامج الفعالية الوقوف دقيقة صمت، وإضاءة الشموع، في إشارة رمزية إلى التزام الحاضرين بإحياء ذكرى الضحايا والمضي قدمًا نحو مستقبل يسوده السلام والوحدة.
تتقدّم سفارة رواندا بجزيل الشكر والامتنان لجميع من شاركوا في إحياء هذه الذكرى، وتؤكد التزامها برفع مستوى الوعي العالمي، وتعزيز الحوار، والتعاون مع الشركاء الدوليين لترسيخ قيم السلام والعدالة.
